And now for all you liberals out there who are reading my review, I know that internally you've just automatically decided you hate me because I'm a conservative and we don't agree. (I know how you Libs think. :) Just had to throw that in there.) But anyway, back to the review at hand. Just so many great things about this ipod! I've read some reviews that claim it's too fragile, or the build quality is not good. I completely disagree! It's heavy-duty and durable, especially compared to other gadgets I've owned (Amazon Kindle, for example. Soooo fragile and low quality build. Do not buy that until they make a better-quality, faster model). Also have read reviews about the sound quality, and that it's not very good. Again, I have to disagree on this. I've owned other MP3 players and this one sounds the best. It's also very fast when switching from songs or albums, etc. Pure joy to use! If you're on the fence about buying, I would highly recommend it. Such a great piece of entertainment technology. I've also been pleasantly pleased at how great some of the games are from the apps store. Many free ones too that are awesome! My latest habit is taking it to bed with me at night and playing games while listening to music before falling asleep. (Yawn....haven't been getting much sleep lately ;)

This review probably won't help you much in deciding whether or not to get an Ipod. It's a very nice device. I got it for my daughter's birthday. She loves it.

The rest of my review is about the delivery. When I ordered this, I had 11 days until my daughters birthday. I thought that it shouldn't be a problem to order it online. So I ordered it and chose the free shipping. It took 12 days to arrive, not including the day that I ordered it. 12 days!! I've never ordered anything (in the US) that took that long to receive! Amazon didn't even get it to the shipper until 5 days after ordering it. Why offer free shipping if you're going to penalize me by waiting 5 days before shipping it? No other online retailer has done that to me before. Needless to say, it arrived the DAY AFTER my daughters birthday. She was very disappointed, but fortunately she's a good girl and didn't stew over it.

So I guess the best info you can get from this review - don't always opt for the free shipping. If I had known it was going to take 12 days, I would've paid the additional charge for standard shipping. After reading about the new faster processor and stable battery life of the 3rd Gen iPod Touch, I may have had high expectations. It is SLIGHTLY faster, but still not as snappy as I would expect. I have been using a Palm for several years and have been very happy with it. My husband wanted to do something nice for me so I purchased the new 64gb 3rd generation itouch. I was so excited.
- I opened the box and there was one small page of instructions that sent me to a website for more information on getting started. That website doesn't exist. I looked all over the Apple website and couldn't find anything.
- I tried to download my contacts from my Palm. Not possible. Everything for the itouch goes through itunes and I've gone to many sites and so far 40 days later I still can't get my contacts onto the itouch. I even exported the contacts into Outlook, but my itouch still isn't able to get them. Looks like I will have to retype all of them.
- I downloaded an audio book and everything came up except excerpt 2. I have exerpts 1,3,4,5,6,7. But Excerpt 2 is nowhere to be found. It's on itunes but isn't on the itouch.
- My husband paid for two games to be downloaded onto the itouch so I would at least start to enjoy it that way. I tried to play the games, but the itouch doesn't always register when I am touching it. Keep losing on the games because of this.

My new itouch just sits on the table because everytime I pick it up to try to do something with it I end up frustrated.

I wanted the Touch since its rollout. I kept waiting for them to add a camera but realized that Apple wouldn't let this product compete with the iPhone. I stopped waiting and started enjoying. I love podcasts and no longer have to watch them on my computer I can watch them anywhere. Sadly, my 32gb Touch disappeared- and by that I mean it was stolen. I had reached a level of wanting to have it with me at all times, so doing without wasn't going to be possible, in my mind. The 64gb G3 had just come out, and I was fairly surprised at the reviews here. So many people said they didn't see any change in functionality at all, but I must disagree. I bought one anyway, and it's noticeably better. The sound without headphones is quite a bit louder (although the quality of that sound still isn't going to win any prizes), the screen seems brighter and a little crisper, and my 2G didn't have a GPS unit built in, but this new one definitely does. It's pinpointed my location in two or three apps without my having given any location information other than time zone. And the processor is faster, there's no doubt about it.

In other words, The iPod Touch 3G is clearly a better model. I do wish it had a camera, but can live without it, and don't give a darn about having an FM radio. In fact, I rarely play music on it.

My only complaint is the battery life. It's no worse than the old one, but it still couldn't be called even adequate with the wifi on. I can't keep it on like my cell phone.

One more thing- I wish Apple would pull its head out of its you-know-what and have several cell phone companies selling the iPhone, and not just ATT. I'm locked in to my carrier for several reasons, and would get an iPhone in a second if Verizon sold them. I don't think I'd be caught dead using AT&T as my carrier, iPhone or not. I waited and waited for MS Zune HD and sort of liked it, but finally ended up buying the relabeled 2nd gen - though I hate steve the jobs more now, b'cos apple is just arrogant.. I looked at cowon s9, - main advantage - supports lots of formats, amazing audio quality, but lacks youtube, browsing etc without wi-fi and sort of dint do whatever i wanted, looked at all sorts of archos - but their reliability seems to take a lot of beating. zune hd, well not worth it still without the apps. In the end nowhere to go apart from buying ipod touch..

now about ipod touch, nifty little device, main usage - browsing, email, videos, all apps - games etc.. many of them become free once in a while - just watch some forums. genie is one horrible function for non english music. it just doesn't work. i just hate it.. get a cover bcos it will scratch easily.. not the glass but the body. speaker is horrible. camera would have been awesome but steve the jobs doesn't think we deserve it yet.. or else he thinks anyway you homosapiens you don't have any option, so buy what he gives..

the ipod touch 3rd generation is definitely the best multi-functional music player in the market. I got the first gen. 16GB ipod touch when it first came out 2 years ago but I ran out of space but I decided to skip the 2nd gen. because ipods are expensive so got the 32GB 3rd gen. when it came out. But if you already have the 2nd gen. ipod touch you should save yourself the money and wait for the 4th. when hopefully a camera and a built-in mic would be standard features because this is not such a major update besides a faster processor, new stock headphones, and lower prices.

However, this ONLY applies to the 32GB and 64GB versions as others have noted. The 3rd gen. 8GB version is exactly the same as the 2nd gen. except it is repackaged so even with the reduced price, the 8GB is an inferior deal.

The first thing I noticed was how much the price of the ipod touch has dropped since its debut. The 16GB was $399 when it first came out and now this 32GB is only $299 ($279 on amazon). This does makes sense because that is how the market works but this is a very good deal.

Obviously $300 is not money to be thrown around, but the ipod touch is well-rounded and offers many features other than just being a decent music player. I personally could not tell any difference in sound quality from my 1st gen. and my 3rd gen. touch, which is a major disappointment because the basic function of an ipod is a music player and improvements are always welcome if not necessary.

The 3rd gen. offers really shoddy and quiet internal speakers, which is better than nothing on the 1st gen. and the stock Apple headphones are just terrible. Note that the 32GB and 64GB versions come with headphones that have a built-in mic and music player controls, but they are basically the same. So you should factor in the cost of buying new headphones.

Some respectable brands for headphones or earbuds are Klipsch, Shure and Bose. I personally use Bose overear headphones because the noise that they block off really makes a difference on the crowded subway. While looking for headphones keep in mind that like all things out there, price and quality (and warrenties) have a direct correlation. But really, the ipod touch sound quality is not bad at all as much as I bash it.

What makes me give 5 stars to this 3rd gen. ipod touch is the fact that its overall package is unmatched in the market today, even with the new Zune HD (the Zune has a much inferior internet browser and limited apps). I am not going to make a comparison between them because both music players attract different audiences, where ipod touch users prefer the apps and the interface while zune users find the Zune Marketplace to be much better than itunes (Marketplace prices for music are cheaper and are a better value especially for heavy downloaders). But for the casual music listener, both are the very similar in form, function, and price.

The 3rd gen. ipod touch has a terrific internet browser that is superior to the Blackberry, but its limitations are that it requires a wifi connection and it does not support adobe flash. I use it to jot down notes quickly, to view my documents on my subway to study, check my mail, look up something quickly on the internet, and obviously to listen to music. There is a plethora of apps that can be downloaded and many are free and quite useful like AIM and SportsTap, and Remote. Apple advertises the ipod touch for the games that it can play and you will not be disappointed if you want to play something on the go.

Th 3.5 inch screen is crisp and watching videos is a pleasure. And the ipod touch does look great with clean lines but if you don't want to get the backplate scratched, you must by a case. The screen itself on the other hand is very scratch-resistant.

I highly recommend the new 3rd generation ipod touch for those who are looking for something in this price range and want a balanced music player that can also play vidoes, surf the web, and play quick games. This is my First review on Amazon and am really excited that this is for an iPod Touch. First of let me tell you that i have been using this product since o three weeks and i am really addicted to this to this one. Let me go by one-by-one. Appearence and Form factor wise this item is very good but i guess that steel back would get a lot of scratch. Its gotta a very big LCD screen. I really enjoy viewing videos on my Touch. And coming to interface, I like ipod's interface very well and i have no complaints about that i have seen ZuneHD's interface also but i dont want to go just by looks. Coming to the sound quality, yeah its a bit ok but i use earbud cushions for my apple earphones and i find them very good now. But without that my apple earphones are a mere waste. Now coming to Wi-fi its gotta a very good reception and is connecting to every network without a problem. Its gotta a great mobile browser which allows multiple tabs also and also runs JAVA content.
